CGL Traypanel System

Trumpington College is a new build school in Cambridge with enhanced community sports facilities that will also act to serve the local community. The Community College boasts strong sustainability credentials: and was designed to achieve BREEAM ‘excellent’. Sustainability across the whole project.

This represents one of the first Building Environments projects for Merson Group. Originally CGL were engaged by Morgan Sindall to supply and install the external cladding system and from this Merson Group’s involvement was extended to include internal expanded mesh and external signage for the sports hall.

The Exterior consisted of fabricated ACM panels formed to the standard CGL Traypanel system and installed to SIPS panels by using CGL helping hand brackets and rails. Gold coloured panels were chosen which greatly complimented the architects simple shaped layout and design of the building. Expanded mesh panels were designed, supplied and installed to locations on the link building and Sports Hall.

For the Interior expanded mesh panels and an acoustic barrier to the internal walls were designed, supplied and installed. The design consisted of SFS Sub Grid, with bespoke fabricated fixing brackets that cleverly allow for individual panel removal for maintenance purposes.

The building is predominantly naturally ventilated through the central space, with double-sided glazing to classrooms providing good day-lighting and renewable energy is provided by a ground source heat pump.
